Our first suggestion takes us to the Portuguese capital, Lisbon. Turn your getaway into a city break and enjoy the culture of this coastal city. Next, we visit Portugal’s second city, Porto. Famous for its bridges, port wine and it Ribeira district, this riverside city makes an excellent getaway and a little quieter than the former on the list. Famous for its busy marina, its old quarter and that it has plenty of great beaches, the port city of Portimão is a hot destination among tourists. This family friendly town has over 15 beaches, some of which are hidden in coves, offers water sports, has plenty of medieval architecture and has some great museums. Tavira, Portugal, is a small city in the Algarve and famous for its beaches, green spaces and its location. On the edge of the Gilão River, this rustic Portuguese town plays host to many tourists every year who come for the beaches, bars, restaurants and other hidden gems the town holds. Take a walk down the back streets in the town and find some great eateries, architecture, museums and landmarks. Moving up the country and on the west coast of Portugal is Peniche. This rocky-coast lined town is located in the Oeste region and is famous for tourists who enjoy to surf among many water sports, hike and explore. Learn to surf with one of the towns surf camps, visit Baleal island which not only has a great beach, is perfect for swimming and surfing and check out Sportágua waterpark which is great for the whole family. Between all of this and the vast amount of great eateries and bars in the town, if Peniche is somewhere you have never travelled to, we definitely recommend you give it a try. We recommend visiting Papôa, this volcanic rock has some of the biggest waves you will see plus is great for hiking and take a ferry out to The Berlengas archipelago from Peniche, you can easily spend the day here getting lost, visiting the protected areas of nature and enjoying the white sand and clear waters.
