Skiing in Val Thorens, French Alps
With a flight time under 2 hours or an accessible drive (12 hours from the UK), Val Thorens is a beautiful ski town that hosts many couples and families alike every year, why make this year any different? Being the highest town in Europe, prepare for some excellent snow! And after a holiday free year for many, why not make family memories on the slopes or for first time skiers, there are an abundance of instructors that are happy to help!
Flying is simple as you can fly into the closest airport which is an hour and a half away by transfer. Flights can be bought direct from London City Airport to Chambéry Airport for approximately £150 Return PP with British Airways and can be found via ixploring.com. Transfers can be very expensive (£600.00+ for a return trip) so we recommend hiring a car from Chambéry for approximately £170.00 for the week for a family sized vehicle and the roads are definitely driveable to the resort. Plus the wonder that is Google Maps on your phone will get you there!
If you have your own ski equipment and are feeling more adventurous, driving only takes 12 hours from the UK (depending on where in the UK of course, we have based the timings from London), the Eurotunnel is very efficient and a ticket for a vehicle (Including the people) can be purchased at approximately £300.00 Return. Just remember.. switch on avoid toll roads!
However you choose, it will be worth it when you arrive!
Our first pick is an Aparthotel near the slopes and within walking distance of everything you will need, for an excellent price of approximately £1300.00 for the week based on a family of 4, we choose;
Our Second choice is a modern apartment just yards from the slopes with communal spa facilities for a fantastic price. For a family of 4 for 1 week, this can be purchased for approximately £1000.00. Our second choice is;
While you are there…
While in Val Thorens, we recommend 3 things…
- Ski!- With some of the best slopes in Europe, take advantage of low priced ski passes and spend time enjoying one of the reasons why Val Thorens is so famous. First time skier? Learn.. or at least give it a go! See why millions of tourists head to ski resorts every year and fall in love with one of the most casual sports there is! Plus if you don’t like it, you can say you have tried and enjoy everything else this lovely town has to offer.
- Try the Zip-Line – For people who like the adrenaline or if you want the views without putting on the ski gear, w definitely recommend you give this a go.
- Hire a snowmobile in the evening and explore the slopes – Trips can be booked where you can go and explore on a snowmobile the wonderful surroundings you are staying in, a bit more tame than the first two but well worth the experience.
As well as these, I think its the law that beer must be a regular part of any skiing holiday!
